Gen4D Printed Denture Bite Block Instructions

Once you receive your bite blocks from the lab, these steps MUST be followed to ensure a successful final denture:

1. Establish Fit:

Perform a light wash inside the bite block and use it as a custom tray. Seat the bite block and let material set up.

2. Determine Vertical Dimension:

Establish using conmetior device. If you do not have a conmetior, you may use the boley gauge method and use the dots on the nose and chin.

3. Establish Centric Relation:

Seat the bite blocks and trim them down until desired vertical dimension is achieved based upon conmetior or boley gauge readings. When possible, it is highly recommended that you use a gothic arch tracer to achieve proper centric relation.

4. Record Bite Registration:

Cut indexes in the bite block, upper and lower, and use blue mousse to squirt in to capture the bite.

5.Mark Landmarks:

Clearly mark the midline, cuspid lines, smile line, and resting lip line.

Proper Facial Feature Orientation

Note: Centre Line (Mid-line) should be centralized with the Philtrum. Canine lines should match the width of the Nose.

Conmetior Instructions for Accurate VDO Measurement

Taking the First Measurement

Loosen the screw and adjust the gauge to measure the distance between the center of the eye with the Eye Indicator and the commissure of the lip with the Lip Indicator.

Securing the Measurement

While holding the VDO Gauge in place, tighten the screw. This will lock the measurement seen on the Measurement Window so that you can take note of what you have measured.

Verifying the Measurement

Flip the gauge around and place the Nasal Spine Indicator against the patient’s nasal spine. If the Chin Indicator fits snuggly under the patient’s chin, you have successfully captured the patient’s VDO.

Troubleshooting VDO Measurement:

  • If the Chin Indicator is short of the patient’s chin: The patient is too open. Re-verify your initial measurement. If the patient still appears open, go through your removable techniques to confirm and proceed accordingly.
  • If the Chin Indicator is too long: The patient is over-closed. Using a leaf gauge, instruct your patient to open their mouth until the Chin Indicator fits snuggly under their chin. Stabilize that bite with a leaf gauge. Fill the gap between the upper and lower teeth with bite registration material. Remove the leaf gauge and continue to backfill the anterior space with more bite registration material. Send this new bite to IDA and inform them to mount the case at this new VDO.

/ Digital Solutions

Is your Dental Practice Ready to Try A Digital Solution?

Before taking your impression, remove at least 1 mm of acrylic on the tissue side of the denture. Doing this will allow for the full coverage on the tissue side of the denture with the impression material. Not removing the acrylic could also result in opening the bite.

If you get burn through or thin spots, you can mark those areas and remove more of the acrylic for full coverage. If you leave those areas, there is a chance of compression on the tissue with the hard acrylic which could cause distortion in the master cast.

While taking the impression, make sure the patient has closed into occlusion and stays in occlusion.
