Application: Before going in with the tray material, apply the material onto the occlusal surface of the teeth with finger pressure, and apply to the borders and undercut areas with a catheter syringe.
Material: We highly recommend the Accudent Alginate from Ivoclar. This material is extremely accurate when handled correctly. We do not advocate for fast-set materials, as they seem to begin to set up prior to even entering the oral environment. Pour up the impression immediately. We recommend using Silky Rock stone with a mechanical mixer.
Cord packing is a must! Begin by packing a small cord, followed by a large cord. As you begin to pull out the large cord, follow behind it with the tip of your syringe of light body, and continue around the full prep using an excessive amount of material. Leave in the small cord and take the impression with heavy body material. If the small cord comes out when the impression is removed, leave the cord in the impression.
Impergum, a polyether, which also has other brand names such as Polygel, is a good choice. Polyethers seem to work well in most all situations of crown and bridge.

We are seeing a trend towards Zirconia. My personal preference is still a good, old-fashioned gold crown, but I definitely understand where the price of gold has become a major factor in prescribing gold crowns.
