At most labs, “case planning” is a checkbox on the prescription form and a 24-hour hold while someone in the back office reviews it. Maybe a phone call if something is unclear. Usually a fabricated case that meets the prescription, with whatever assumptions the bench had to make to fill the gaps.
That works for routine cases. It does not work for the cases where the difference between a great outcome and a remake lives in details the prescription form can’t capture.
You send a case or call. Within hours (often immediately), you talk to the technician who’ll be at the bench. You pull up the scan together. You talk through the prep, the abutment, the screw access, the soft tissue, the shade.
By the end of the call, the case is planned. The plan is documented. The bench gets to work.
Nothing is assumed. Nothing is filled in by the bench guessing what the dentist meant. Clear communication to create more predictable outcomes at try-in.
